Girls Club or “Club de Chicas” as it’s known in town is made up of a group of girls between the ages of 7-12 years old. The girls meet up with the group leader after school on Fridays to participate in diverse range of activities. Activities include swimming, body boarding, baking, bracelet making, crafts, gardening, and much more. The curriculum is defined by the participants and guided by the leader. The program themes reflect the interests of the girls, the season, and resources available.
Girls Club empowers its participants by allowing them to decide which activities they want to pursue; the safe space of the cub encourages the girls try new activities, expand their comfort zones and be part of an awesome group of chicas. In February of 2015 the club was able to raise enough for a day tip to a nearby town called Mancora. The girls got to spend a day at the beach, try some different foods and shop in the tourist market. February 2016 marked the two year anniversary of Girls Club. We are thrilled to see more and more girls participating and an increase of support of the program from local families.
